Vegetarians Eat Too

Someone asked me recently what I eat everyday, and I tried to explain to this person that contrary to what people who eat meat think, vegetarians actually eat too.

I've talked about this before, but I'll say it again. Not all vegetarians are super thin. This is a myth. We're exactly like meat-eaters. Some of us are thin, some of us are fat. It just depends on your daily caloric intake and how much you burn off with excersize. Right?

So when I was explaining to this person (dickhead?), about what I eat everyday he was totally surprised. I guess he assumed that vegetarians lived on lettuce and alfafa sprouts. No honey, that's what ballerinas live on!

Sometimes I'll post what I eat so you can see what I mean. Today for lunch I had some ready-made sushi, oinari and kanpyo maki, some good tofu from my favorite tofu shop in Mitsukoshi, and a variety of pickles. Recently I'm into making eggplant pickles with instant pickle marinade. Very good! And my drink was Cherry Vinegar that I made last month in some of my lessons diluted with water.
Simple lunch. Very satisfying. Nothing special. Healthy. That's it!

So you can see, vegetarians eat too!!

I have to prepare my Yukata now and play with the racoon before I have to leave home tonight. I'm wearing a yukata everyday this week. I love getting into the festive mood. Isn't summer fun?!

Have a good night! And check ou the cute pictures of the furry doll.
Someone said that Sakurako looks like my daughter. Does that mean that I can adopt her??

Bubbles

While I was watching a movie last night I was enjoying some nicely chilled "bubbles". Most of you must know by now that this is what I call sparkling wine.
As soon as I put the bottle in the ice-bucket Sakurako came along to investigate and starting licking the outside of the bottle. I couldn't stop laughing!
Well, at least we know she has good taste!!

Watching Tv

Last night I was watching one of my favorite movies that I hadn't seen in ages, "Fried Green Tomatoes". Anyone seen it? Really nice movie. Anyway, Sakurako jumped up on my little checkered table and sat there staring at the screen for quite a while. It really looked like she was watching the movie too.
What a funny cat!
Daisuki!

Jewels

I'm teaching Sakurako about jewelry. I recently purchased some new accessories and she was very interested in playing with them. I think anything thst dangles grabs her attention.
I think she's already looking for a "sugar daddy", (sugar Tom cat?) to buy her some expensive stuff. Look out boys!

The Sink

Another one of her favorite places. I think she likes it because it's cool.
I let her play in there when there are no dishes, which is all the time because I'm a super "neat" person!!

Capponata

Another hot day! I regret sleeping till late. Should've gone to the beach. Too late.

How's it going everyone?
Enjoying your weekend?
I'm not doing anything special this weekend. I have a plan to go shopping tomorrow and check out the sales. Shopping is always dangerous for me because I never come back empty-handed. It's just a matter of how much damage I do to my wallet in the process.

What I'm really looking for is a spice rack. I'm not talking about some cheap crappy thing. I have an image of what I want, but I just can't find one anywhere.
If you ever go to Namaskar, my favorite Indian restaurant, take a look at the spice rack they have on display at the entrance near the counter. That's exactly what I want. I'm thinking about stealing, ah, excuse me "borrowing" it next time I'm there. It's perfect. And it's black. Damn that's a nice rack!
I think I'm going to have to make my own one. This would be a nice project for me. Anyone out there who knows how to build things? And most importantly, do you have a tan or tattoos? Send your resume immediately if you're interested in making a spice rack with a lovely (dame kana?) Australian girl. Ha!

Today's recipe is Capponata. France, Spain and Italy all have their own versions of this recipe which is basically just a bunch of summer vegetables simmered in tomatoes and white wine.
Here's my version of the dish. Takes about 15-20 minutes to make. Very simple. Try it chilled. I prefer it this way on hot days like today.
You can also add fresh chopped mozzarella. Drizzle a little lemon juice and enjoy with a crunchy baguette. It really is a great dish.

Capponata

4 eggplants
2 green peppers
1 onion
1 zucchini
1 pack shimeji
1 pack elingi
1 can white beans
2 Tsp. vegetable stock
1 can chopped tomatoes
2 bay leaves
50ml white wine
5-6 basil leaves
pepper
3 Tbs. olive oil

1. Chop the vegetables to the size of your choice.

2. Fry the vegetables in olive oil, the add stock. Cook for about 5 minutes till all the vegetables are coated well with the oil.

3. Add the tomatoes and wine. Simmer till most of the liquid has evaporated.

4. Lastly, tear the basil leaves in and add pepper.

Bon appetite!

And don't forget to prepare some nicely chilled wine, then enjoy it with someone you love!!

Have a great weekend!

My Closet

I was looking for Sakurako yesterday and couldn't find her anywhere. Then I thought about the last place I was and remembered I had just changed my clothes.
All I could see was a racoon tail sticking out from the bottom of my clothes. So funny!
She's so quiet that sometimes when I walk into my closet (it's a walk-in type), I don't hear her follow me in. I have accidently closed the door and locked her in not knowing that she was inside. Then a couple of minutes later I went back in to get something and realized she was in there. Lucky!
I tell you..
Sakurako would be a great spy!!

Camenbert Jacket Potatoes

What strange weather we have here in Sendai. It's almost like typhoon weather. Hot, but really strong, cool wind. Terrible! I love the rain, but this wind is pretty annoying. Good luck girls with your hair!!

Today I didn't have time for the gym, unfortunately. Had to go "zapping" which is my nickname for hair removal by lazer. Almost every girl I know gets this done as it makes life easier by not having to worry about unwanted hair.
Anyway, I've been going to the same place for about 7 years, so I'm pretty used to the staff there and they all know me. It takes about 2 hours to get what I need done and I like to go in there, say hello, close my eyes and not talk till they're finished and I can go home. To be honest, I don't really care for small talk and I'm not interested in answering question after question about my personal life.

In the first five minutes of my "zapping" I was asked very casually in Japanese "Shigoto nani yateru no?". I'm not sure if it was the question that annoyed me more or the way she asked it in such a casual way like we have been friends for years or something. I'd say this girl is about half my age (so around 14 years old...ha), which also made me uncomfortable. I knew this was going to be a long two hours.

I love the phrase "k. y." (kuki yomenai). This is exactly how I felt about the young lady (girl?), that was taking care of me. So after I answered her question very "politely" in formal Japanese and in one word to hint that I didn't feel like talking, I was expecting her to shut up and just do her job without bothering me. Can you believe the next question directly after that was "ima nan sai?". I'm serious! Again, so casually. I was so annoyed by her and her lack of manners and ability to use "keigo" when necessary that I didn't answer her question but asked her to let me sleep while she does her work. Her last comment was "wakarimashita. nemusou dane". Yappari "k. y." desu ne.

That's today's exciting story. Another exciting story is that Sakurako loves her colored balls I got her and plays with them a lot. I have to roll them for her, but it's alright because I love playing with her. Anything for MY little racoon!

Today's recipe will be simple. I'm in a hurry to go out and am running late as usual. Why are women always running late??

Jacket Potatoes are basically just potatoes baked in an oven in their skins.
All you have to do is rub a little salt and olive oil on each carefully washed potato. No need to prick them or cut them or anything.
Bake in a preheated 190 degree oven for 90-100 minutes.
Cut the baked potatoes in half. Scoop out the flesh. be careful not to break the skins as you will use them as shells later.
Add a little salt, pepper, soy milk, fresh or dry herbs, and a little cheese of your choice to the potato flesh. I like camenbert with this recipe. Mix the potato mixture well.
Then, fill the potato skins with the potato mixture. Return to 250 degree oven and bake again for another 20 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the potato filling is hot.

You can put whatever you like into the potato mixture. I usually open up my fridge and use whatever I have in there.
These jacket potatoes are fantastic. I eat them all the time, and although they take a while to cook, the preparation time is nothing. Give them a try. Sugoi oishiiyo!

Time to get going.
Bye!!

Good To Be a Cat

Does anyone else think that Sakurako looks like a little stuffed doll? I think I'm going to take her to pet modeling agency and make money from her while the owner is away in Hokkaido. Sakurako can appear in commercials, get paid lots of money, deposit her hard earnings (salary), into my bank account and everyone will live happily ever after.

Come on sakurako. Time to work. Lillian needs shopping money. Daddy ni naishou ne!!
